Al Lamata entered active service in the U.S. Army on Dec. 9, 1943 in San Francisco and attended basic training in Camp Cooke, CA. On June 14, 1944 he left San Francisco and arrived at the Asiatic Pacific Theater on July 7. He was attached to the Counter Intelligence Corps and was stationed in Papua, New Guinea (jungle training), Hollandia, New Guinea, and the Philippines.

On March 23, 1946, Lamata left Leyte, Philippines and arrived in San Francisco on April 9. He received his honorable discharge at Camp Beale, CA on April 14, 1946.
