Photographed in Jacksonville, Florida, 2020
Originally from Pennsylvania, Janocko was drafted at age 19 and served about in the US Army for three years, from 1943 - 1946. His overseas tour was in the Pacific Theater of WWII with the 11th Airborne Division, “The Angels,” specifically in battles and campaigns in New Guinea, the South Philippines and Luzon, and later in the occupation of Japan in Okinawa. Janocko would fly with a pilot in a tiny piper cub airplane to the front lines of battle and drop supplies to the troops on resupply runs.
